Counting Down The New Year

Each year on New Year's Eve, I put together these countdown bags for a fun family "countdown to the new year" activity. Each bag is filled with a different themed-activity so when the bag is opened, we can partake in said activity.

For example, one bag may be a "movie and popcorn" bag which would include a DVD and a baggie of popcorn kernels. Another activity may be playing a board game so that bag would have game pieces or an instruction booklet. The last bag of the night might be some party blowers, streamers, sparklers, party hats, etc. The perfect way to celebrate the new year.

Each hour (or half-hour), it's a big surprise. Little ones LOVE opening bags and seeing what's inside. It's fun to watch them figure out what the next activity will be. It really makes the night go by quickly... and helps keep parents awake long enough to celebrate the new year!

I typically line the bags up under the Christmas tree and then we watch the clock and wait to open the next bag. This makes New Year's Eve super interactive and full of fun. And it makes the time go by quickly.

Since we have so much fun with it, I figured I'd share it with you, too! Included are tags for every half-hour and hour throughout the day so you can begin and end your countdown when it works best for you. Just attach them to your filled up brown paper bags and you're good to go. Click on the picture below to download.

Desktop Organization... Yes, Please!

Several months ago, I saw a picture on pinterest of someone who had created an organizer for her desktop. It was very plain and simple... but it served it's purpose. I loved the idea. I just wanted more. More colors, more graphics, more fonts... ALL of it!!!

So I started playing with some designs for my computer. When I got bored, I would change it.

Every time I'd whip my computer out somewhere, someone was asking me how I did that and how they could get one for their computer. I've found a few simple ideas online... some free, some cost a dollar or two.  But then it hit me.... what about a different design for every month of the year?!?!?!?!

I'm already listening to Christmas music (don't judge me!!) so I started with a Christmas design. After test driving it on my own computer, I figured I'd take on the task of making a set for the whole year.

{Surely I'm not the only one that enjoys changing desktop designs frequently. Right?!?!}

Anyway, here we go... 12 different designs... one for each month of the year. Of course, if you love a design so much, use it for more than one month.... use it for a whole year! Or you can switch them each month. However you want to use them, it's up to you.

Click on the image to see this item in my TPT store!
I've also included an editable file in case you want different headers than the ones I came up with. And guess what? It'll be 50% off for the first day or two. So grab the set now while it's super cheap!!

And because you made it to this point in my post, I have a FREEBIE for you! Click on the image to download a "Building Brick" Desktop Organizer.

Never, ever get bored with your desktop again. Never, ever go crazy trying to find the icon you need.  I know I never will! ;-)

Happy organizing!

Why Should I Leave Feedback On TPT?

Have you ever wondered why so many Teachers Pay Teachers products and teacher Facebook posts say something like "please leave feedback" or "feedback greatly appreciated"? I used to wonder, too. But then I became a frequent TPT shopper... and a seller... and now I know why it's so important.

Read on if you're curious.

Free Products
Did you know that every time you leave feedback on an item you purchase from TPT, you earn credits which can then be used to score FREE PRODUCTS?!?!? {If you didn't already know that, then congratulations! Today is your lucky day.}

Here's how it works:

You get 1 TPT credit for every dollar you spend. (And they even round it up for you!) So, for example, if you spend $19.75, you'll get 20 TPT credits. {Note: 20 credits = $1}. So in this scenario, you spent about $20 and now you've earned $1 to spend on any product you find on TPT. Score!

I used to think "well, yah, but I only spent $3.00... that's not much of a credit at all." But here's the deal... every little credit adds up. You might only get 3 credits here and 5 credits there. But think about it this way: if you save them up, little by little, then when a TPT sale comes along, you could score all kinds of awesome products FOR FREE!! (I'm just sayin'!)

You might be thinking, "sounds good... but what's the catch?" Excellent question! The catch, you see, is that you must leave feedback on each item you've purchased in order to receive credit for that item. Which really, when you think about it, that's not really much of a "catch" at all. Click a few buttons, type a short comment and bah-dah-boom. TPT credits in your account, waiting to be spent!

Evaluation Of Work
For those of us creating digital documents and graphics, it's nice to know the endless hours of hard work wasn't in vain. Here's how you can help us to become better designers that will, in turn, create better products for you:
  • If you like something we've created, TELL US!!!! It'll make our day. Honestly, it can be a bit discouraging to sell several copies of something, something you've invested a lot of time and energy in, without any comments being left. (Did they like my product? Did they hate it? Is anyone actually using it in their classroom? Are we still friends?) Just some of the questions you're leaving us to ask ourselves when you don't leave feedback. *tear*
  • If you notice a typo, please be kind and let us know. Chances are we've been balancing a hundred few other things while trying to create this product. Occasional typos are going to happen. We are human, after all. But we're also really cool people (if I do say so myself!) so we're super happy to fix any mistakes we've made! Just send us a quick email (if we've listed it in our store's profile), reach out through Facebook or send a "q & a" through our TPT page.
  • If you have suggestions for future products and/or would like to see something in the same theme/color scheme/style as a product you just purchased from us, let us know. We love suggestions! Sometimes the creative juices stop flowing. They just.... stop! Your suggestion might just be the little creative spark we need to get going again.
  • Be fair with your feedback. We understand that our products aren't going to make everyone happy. We do our best to include as many preview photos as possible so you know exactly what you're getting. If you have a problem with something you purchase from us, reach out and allow us the opportunity to at least try and make the situation better. Some of us are brand new at this, figuring things out as we go. Some of us are veterans. But we're all human. We all try. We all Most of us take a lot of pride in our work. But please be considerate of the fact that we have feelings too! Like Momma says... "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Well.... except that we want you to say something. Just be kind when you say it. A simple "thank you" or "This is a great product. My only suggestion would be ______" or something friendly like that.
  • We appreciate that you're spending your hard earned dollars on our products (aww... you're so sweet!) and are so grateful to have your business.
So to recap... be sure to leave feedback for EVERY item you purchase. You'll help the sellers improve and you'll bank up some FREE TPT spending money in the process! And even though it doesn't earn you any spending money, still leave feedback for the freebies you download, too! Why? Because you're super AWESOME like that! ;-)

Keeping My {Blog} Organized

If you've been in the blogging world for more than a day, then you totally understand how challenging it can be to keep everything organized. So many passwords to remember, blog posts to schedule, giveaways to participate in, giveaways to plan, stats to track... OY VEY!

Determined to find a way to keep myself organized, I searched and searched and eventually stumbled across this fantastic organizer from Schroeder Shenanigans in 2nd. Oh-Em-Gee, y'all. This is incredible!!

BLOG POST, GIVEAWAY, and LINKY PARTY Organizer and Planner!

I printed it out and organized the pages into the sections I needed. There were some extra pages that don't really apply to me just yet so I tucked those in the back pocket for safe keeping until I'm ready them.

As I was planning out a blog post today, I got the {brilliant} idea to line my pages with washi tape. Why? Because washi tape is adorable and (usually) re-positionable so I can change my mind whenever I want to without ruining what I'm working on. And it also doubles as colorful dividers of sorts.

See how cute these pages look?!  I mean... see how {organized} these pages look?!

I added some lined paper to the back for any random un-organized thoughts... and a "week at a glance" calendar to the front. I love the organized pages, but sometimes I just need to see it all up front.

Then I whipped up a cover and... TA-DA!! All my blog/giveaway/linky party stuff in one place!

So head on over and grab this fantastic organizer. You'll be so glad you did. I sure am! :-)

Five For Friday - July 11, 2014

I keep seeing all these "Five For Friday" posts each week and had to find out what the heck it was for. Now that I know, I'm going to attempt to join in the fun! So here goes...

I've developed quite the spray paint addiction. First I spray painted a picture frame, then a chair and now everything in my house seems to need a "makeover". Yesterday, I finished my son's bed makeover. I'm not a fan of wood colors... black is more my style. He requested colored strips on his bed, so this was the compromise!

I got a new pair of glasses. It's always so hard to tell what they are going to look like on me since I'm practically blind while I'm trying them on. These are a bit "nerdy" and not typically my style... but they're growing on me. Oh, and they're BLUE (which of course you can't tell from the picture). I'm living life on the wild side! ;-)

In a random streak of incredible luck, my son and I stumbled upon this SUPER fun playground while taking a road detour. This hidden gem brought us a great deal of fun. I'm looking forward to stumbling upon purposely visiting this playground again.

I reached my first big milestone on Teachers Pay Teachers... my store now has more than 100 followers. So I did a little giveaway and linky party on my blog. That was super fun!

I may have totally geeked out reacted like a normal, mature adult when I saw this new KG font. I mean seriously, how cute is this?!? There's much fun to be had with this font. And I LOVE the name: Only Human.

So, that about sums my week up. This has seriously been so much fun. A great time of personal reflection... and now you know a little bit more about me! Have a lovely weekend!! :-)

It's A Good Day To CELEBRATE!!!

I was literally sitting here at my computer, designing to graphic to post on my page, announcing a giveaway for when I reached 100 followers on TPT.

Then I refreshed my TPT page, and this happened:

Primary Possibilities posted one of my freebies on their page for their day-long 3,000 follower celebration. (Did you snag a bunch of freebies? I mean, holy moly, there were a LOT!!).

10 minutes after my freebie was posted, this happened:

Almost 200 downloads in 10 minutes. Super exciting! And the feedback has all been wonderful!

So now that I've passed the 100 follower mark (woop-woop!!), it's time for a giveaway!!!! And a linky party!!!!

Here's the deets:

For the GIVEAWAY, enter to win $10 worth of product(s) from my Teachers Pay Teachers store. You can pick anything... mix and match sets... up to $10.
