I don't know if it's the colored dice I use or the star stickers they get when they finish, but they absolutely love this. Dice go flying every which way. It's a friendly competition... and they have no idea they are learning. (Shhhh!!)
The instructions are simple, really.
1) Roll the dice.
2) Whatever word is below the die picture which corresponds to the number you just rolled, read it.
3) Write the word in the box below it.
With the younger kiddos (K-1st grade), we did a word competition to see which word would be the most popular... or which word was written the most times. The older kiddos (2nd-3rd) did a full on competition to see who could finish first.
The catch... they have to say the word before or after they write it. If they forget to actually say the word, I just might be there with my bright red teachers marker to "x" out a box or two. For every page they complete, I give them a gold star sticker.
Just to shake things up a bit, I let a couple of the kiddos do their writing up on the board. This was just as fun for them!
Here's the versions I currently have in my store... click on the image to be taken there. More word lists to come soon!
Oh the fun we have with this (learning) activity!!
