BLOG HOP: Spring Has Sprung and Games Are Fun!

Boy are we in for a treat... or a few. A game (it's a FREEBIE!!!), a giveaway AND a blog hop!!!! Are you ready for this?!?

First, the game. Who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned game of BINGO?! It's one of those games that can be modified to fit just about anything being taught in the classroom... yet it's crazy fun. I use BINGO sheets a lot (... a LOT!!!) in my class. Since my kiddos are intervention (aka, struggling with reading), I have to make their double dose lessons fun to keep their attention and increase comprehension. In comes BINGO.

Sometimes I will use their trick words. Other times I will use nonsense words. I've even been known to use proper nouns, contractions, compound words, vocabulary and phrases.

(Note: I usually type in the boxes but unfortunately, my freebie isn't editable so you'll have to print out the pages and hand-write the words you want to use. But then I recommend laminating them or putting them in a sheet protector. This keep them durable for as long as possible.)

For covering up the squares, you can either use dry erase markers, foam shapes or paper scraps. And of course, there is a "free space" on each board... a spring chickie.

To get the freebie, click on the image below. It will take you to my Teachers Pay Teachers store when you can download these sheets for free.

And now on to my giveaway...  one super awesome person will score my entire Spring Bingo Pack complete with sight/trick words, nonsense words and more!! Everything is filled in so all you have to do is print and go. Awesome, right?!?! Don't miss your chance to win... enter now!! :-)

And last, but definitely not least, it's time for you to hop on over to my friend, Triple The Love In Grade 1 for another spring-tastic freebie!!

I hope you are having as much fun as I am. Hopping through these blogs, I'm getting so many great ideas for my classroom.

Happy Hopping!!

Kinder Fun: Flip Flop Book

Oh how I LOVE flip flops! Here in Arizona, we can pretty much wear them all year long... but during the summer, I just love lounging around in my flippity-floppity-flops.

Now that it's warming up (you know, because it was "cold" for a couple of months! ha!), I figured a flip flop book might be a fun activity for my kinders.

Flip Flop Easy Reader Flipbook

It combines colorful flip flops with beginning reading skills. The sentences are the same on every page... with the exception of the blank box where they need to cut and paste the color.

The kids had a lot of fun with this... and they were so excited about the fact that they'd get to take it home to read to Mommy and Daddy! I loved watching them point to each word and "read" it.

You can purchase your very own copy of the Flip Flop Easy Reader. It's designed in color but with minimal graphics so won't use up too much ink. You can certainly print it in black & white if you prefer... the graphics still turn out great. There are two-pages on every page so no paper is being wasted.

Happy reading!

Thing 1 & Thing 2

Today was a fun day. Fridays are normally busy days for me... I do progress monitoring pretty much all day long. (All. Day. Long.) But with today being our "Read Across America" celebration (aka, reading outside for a half hour)... and the last day before Spring Break... and the end of a quarter... it was more of a play day for me!

My munchkin and I dressed up as Thing 1 & Thing 2 and had fun parading our Seuss-spirit all around the school.

I got to read with the kids outside...

And made "green eggs & ham" treats for them to enjoy while reading!

I got to work some on my classroom door for the "Camp High Five Door Decorating Contest" (part of my school's Boosterthon fundraiser). I offered to decorate my neighbor's door, too... so I still need to finish my door and then get hers done next week.

All in all, it was an AWESOME day! How did YOU celebrate the great "Doctor's" would-be birthday this week???
