Counting Down The New Year

Each year on New Year's Eve, I put together these countdown bags for a fun family "countdown to the new year" activity. Each bag is filled with a different themed-activity so when the bag is opened, we can partake in said activity.

For example, one bag may be a "movie and popcorn" bag which would include a DVD and a baggie of popcorn kernels. Another activity may be playing a board game so that bag would have game pieces or an instruction booklet. The last bag of the night might be some party blowers, streamers, sparklers, party hats, etc. The perfect way to celebrate the new year.

Each hour (or half-hour), it's a big surprise. Little ones LOVE opening bags and seeing what's inside. It's fun to watch them figure out what the next activity will be. It really makes the night go by quickly... and helps keep parents awake long enough to celebrate the new year!

I typically line the bags up under the Christmas tree and then we watch the clock and wait to open the next bag. This makes New Year's Eve super interactive and full of fun. And it makes the time go by quickly.

Since we have so much fun with it, I figured I'd share it with you, too! Included are tags for every half-hour and hour throughout the day so you can begin and end your countdown when it works best for you. Just attach them to your filled up brown paper bags and you're good to go. Click on the picture below to download.

As we say "goodbye" to 2014 and "hello" to 2015, I just have to say how truly thankful I am for all of you following me in my creative journey. I absolutely LOVE designing things and getting all crafty... and it makes me so, so happy that you've chosen to be a part of my little world. Thank you! I wish you the very best 2015... may your year be filled with hope, happiness and all kinds of fun!
